Food Karma NYC Presents: Sauce King NYC™
An International Sauce Competition
In 2020 we are seeing the resurgence of backyard grilling and the rise of at-home smokers. More people are cooking for themselves than ever and that brings us back to the basics. The best sauces may just be the most important ingredients in your pantry.
About Sauce King NYC™
Sauce King NYC™ will determine the best barbecue sauces, hot sauces, marinades and more. A panel of expert judges from the NYC food, chef, and media community will taste each sauce, and select exclusive winners in each category who stand out for their bold flavors, excellent ingredients, and delicious taste.
This is not your average sauce competition. It’s not about finding the hottest sauce that will blow your head off. Sauce King™ is about showcasing the wide range of top quality, all natural, barbecue sauces, hot sauces, and beyond that are perfect for backyard barbecue, grilling, and home cooking. We will be accepting a wide range of submissions – with the opportunity for people to submit their own categories.
Submit your sauce, marinade or condiment between now and August 30, 2020. The awards aim to promote top sauces in a wide range of categories. Category winners and awards will be announced by October – date to come
Winners will be awarded with an opportunity to participate in Food Karma’s culinary festivals, including Pig Island NYC and Brisket King NYC, among others as VIP samples, vendors or featured chef prizes. Winners will also be featured in The Smoke Sheet, NYC BBQ Weekly, and in all our press releases and promotions surrounding the event. Winners can also have their online sales links added to the Sauce King NYC™ website. Awards will be announced by October. Submit your sauce now for a chance to promote your award in time for the next holiday season.

From Food Karma: Shaquanda’s Hot Sauce was Born During a Drag Performance, Then Became a Successful Business
Food Karma’s communication’s director talked to Andre Springer, the founder of Shaquanda’s Hot Peer Sauce about the unique origin story behind his product, the flavors represented in his brand, and how his sauces combine his Barbadian heritage and his Brooklyn upbringing.
“Staying true to the core ingredients of mustard, turmeric, hot peppers and onion, I wanted that to work around that. You won’t see apple cider vinegar, tomato paste and ginger in a Barbadian hot sauce, but those things are often around it. As you’re eating something, those flavors will interact at some point. I wanted to preserve that in a bottle.”
